Jackson leads the way in sportsman race.
ORK HAVEN, Pa.: Tony Jackson is no longer a full-time competitor in the Super Sportsman division at BAPS Motor Speedway.
Instead, Jackson wanted to be more diversified. The Carlisle, Pa., driver wanted a mix of wingless and winged Super Sportsman races, which means no points and a little more time to spend with family.
That doesn’t mean Jackson isn’t on point when he does show up at the York Haven, Pa., facility. If you are looking for evidence, just watch his performance in Saturday’s 25-Lap main event for the winged division.
Jackson started on the pole but lost the lead at the start. That didn’t stop him from rallying and retaking the top spot on his way to another Super Sportsman victory on FK Rod End College Night at the Speedway.
“We had a good car, and I knew I needed to take my time, and we could battle for the lead.” Said Tony Jackson
Troy Rhome got the jump on Jackson at the start and paced the field through two early caution periods. Jackson stalked the leader before driving to take his spot at the front of the field.
While Jackson set pace, Kenny Edkin was moving forward from his seventh starting spot. He was up to fourth on the third circuit and wrestled second away by the time Lap 14 was complete.
John Edkin brought out the final caution on Lap 20, when he stopped in Turn 2. That gave Edkin a clear shot at Jackson, but the veteran driver was up to task and held on for the win by 1.280 seconds.
Kenny Edkin settled for second, with Scott Dellinger storming from 12th to third in the final rundown. Mike Enders and Troy Rhome completed the top five.
In the USAC East Coast Sprint Car main event, Kenny Miller III started on the pole and led every lap on his way to the win.
The event featured one caution and three restarts. Steven Drevicki started ninth and quickly made his way to the front, taking fifth by the fourth circuit and second by the time Lap 19 was complete.
But there was no challenge for the win. Miller III had a comfortable lead and took the victory by 1.454 seconds at the finish. Christian Bruno, Ed Aiken, and Bobby Butler completed the top five.
Colton Friese took care of business in the Central PA Legends main event, holding off Kelby Friese at the finish to score the 15-Lap feature victory.
Dalton Friese jumped out front in this family affair and led the first four laps before Ryan Walls took over the lead. It was short-lived, as Colton Friese, who started seventh, put his car up front for the rest of the distance.
By no means was it a runaway. Kelby Friese stayed within striking distance but fell short by .301 seconds at the stripe. Walls, Dalton Friese, and Jeremy Ott completed the top five.
In Superior Homes Extreme Stock action, Alex Updegraff started seventh on the grid but made his way to the lead in a hurry.
Updegraff took the top spot on Lap 6 and never looked back to claim the win. Kody Sites, Robert Stough, David Dietz, and Ryan Bloom completed the top five.
