There has been a slight push by some Sprint Car drivers for BAPS Motor Speedway to run on a Friday nights.
The management team of owner Scott Gobrecht and general manager Kolten Gouse have responded. At least for one week this season.
BAPS Motor Speedway will host the Viper Risk Management Shootout for 410 Sprint Cars and PASS/IMCA 305 Sprints on Aug. 10. The winner of the 410 Sprint Car main event will pay $3,500 to win and $325 to start.
“We’re excited,” Gouse said. “We don’t get an opportunity to run sprint cars on Friday night, but with Williams Grove Speedway off for the week, it’s a good opportunity to try something different at BAPS Motor Speedway.
“We’re thankful that Shawn Martin from Viper Risk Management stepped up to help us put on this event and give teams who don’t travel to the Knoxville Nationals a chance to compete at the speedway.”
A twist to this event is that C&B Mushroom Farms will kick in extra money for drivers who don’t qualify for the main event. The fifth-place finisher in the B-Main will receive $200. Sixth through eighth will receive $125.
There is also bonus money for the highest finishing team in the A-Main using a 360 Sprint Car motor, courtesy of C&B Mushroom Farms. That driver will receive $275.
Pit gates for this event will open at 4 p.m., with fans being allowed to enter the grandstands at 4:30. Racing begins at 7 p.m.
