Gregg Satterlee Races to Victory at BAPS Motor Speedway

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Gregg Satterlee rolled into BAPS Motor Speedway Saturday night with a little bit of extra motivation.

On Friday, he struggled a little bit during his visit to Thunder Mountain Speedway. He couldn’t get on track throughout the night and finished eighth in the main event.

That wasn’t about to happen one day later. Satterlee and his team were on point all night and wired the field to capture the 30-lap Super Late Model portion of the York County Nationals.

“My car was good, and I was able to move around to get by lapped cars,” Satterlee said. “So, that was a good thing, and they gave me room.

“I got a good time and was able to get on the front row for the feature. We’ve had a really good car, lately. We went to Thunder Mountain and struggled a little bit all night, so it’s good to get back and get a win.”

Continued Satterlee, “I’ve never been here. It’s a great racetrack, and they did a great job with track prep. It seemed like you could move around all over it.”

Dan Stone started on the pole of the main event, but Satterlee was too strong on the opening circuit and grabbed the lead. Coleby Frye settled into third, with Mike Lupfer following close behind.

Satterlee, of Indiana, Pa., was setting a blistering pace. By the time the third lap was scored, he had built a one-second advantage over the field.

Tyler Horst brought out the lone caution of the event on the third circuit, when he rolled to a stop in Turn 4. On the restart, Frye accelerated around Stone to take over the runner-up spot.

As for Satterlee, he was gone. He distanced himself by 2.390 seconds by Lap 10 and increased his advantage to 3.547 seconds by the halfway point.

Satterlee caught the back of the field by the 16th circuit. One lap later, Stone caught and passed Frye for the second position.

Stone started to chop into Satterlee’s lead on Lap 23. He was 3.301 seconds back and closed to within 1.887 seconds by the time Lap 26 was scored.

“I felt like I had a pretty good lead, but I was trying to be careful as I could with the lapped cars,” Satterlee said. “It would’ve been easy to go in there and lose time, and I think I did a few laps not being patient in the corners.”

Satterlee gave up some ground over the next two laps, but once he cleared the lapped car of Tyler Horst, he cemented the win by 1.429 seconds. Stone settled for second, with Frye, Kyle Lee, and Andy Haus completing the top five.

“Lapped traffic doesn’t wear you down,” Satterlee said. “You just got to get in a rhythm and change your line when you get to lapped cars.

“You just have to be patient more than anything. You don’t want to get excited and lose track of where you are on the racetrack. We’ll take it and be back next week.”

In the Gene Latta Ford Central Pa. Legends presented by Baker Door Company main event, Travis McClelland led every circuit in the 20-lap affair.

Littlestown’s McClelland started on the outside pole and beat Seth Kearchner into the first corner. He led the first 12 laps before the caution was thrown on Lap 13 when Dustin Bellemare spun in Turn 1 while running fifth.

Scott Houdeshell settled into second and harassed the leader, but he couldn’t make a move for the win. McClelland led the rest of the way, beating Houdeshell the by a mere .237 seconds.

Alex Schmiedel finished third, with Bill Diehl and Kearchner completing the top five for the 25-car field.

Adam Campbell started seventh on the grid and rocketed to the front to take the win in the Limited Stock main event, which was sponsored by Elite Racing Imagery.

Travis Brown started on the outside pole and led the first lap. Campbell, of Danville, Pa., wasted little time carving his way through competitors and took the lead by the time the second circuit was complete.

There was one caution over the 20-lap distance, but that didn’t slow Campbell down. He took the win by 4.461 seconds and earned $500 for the win.

Tim Campbell was second, followed by Brown. Nick McDaniel and Robbie Carroll completed the top five.
