Chris Meleason Claims Super Sportsman Win at BAPS

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Chris Meleason has been fast at different points in the Super Sportsman season, but he just didn’t have the results to show for it.

A week ago, fans and fellow competitors got a glimpse of what Meleason can do if bad luck stays away. He finished third in the Super Sportsman 100 and had plenty of momentum going into last Saturday night.

The end result was something that was long overdue. Meleason dominated the 25-Lap BAPS Super Sportsman main event at BAPS Motor Speedway, taking the win by a gaudy 5.67 seconds.

“It was smooth,” Meleason said. “I can’t thank this crew enough. Our performances haven’t really shown the work we have been putting in, and finally, we are starting to show some speed.

“Big thanks to Chuck Duncan. We partnered up this year, and like I said, we haven’t shown the work we have put into it, and it’s just good to show speed at the end of the year. Big thanks to the crew, Josh and Kramer ... he does all of our set-ups, and he had it working tonight.”

That’s an understatement.

Devin Beidel started on the pole and led the first circuit. Meleason, who started third, wasted little time flexing at the front of the field, blowing by Beidel for the top spot on the second circuit.

Once out front, Meleason went into check-out mode. He blasted around the bottom of the speedway, slicing through lapped traffic with ease.

“It was not one of my typical tracks,” Meleason said. “Normally, I like to be up top, but man, this thing was smooth down there. We tried a couple of things on this car this week and got it working like the other car.

“I wasn’t going to give it away. I stayed on it the whole time. When you’re out there, you don’t know how close anyone is, and you just run every lap as hard as you can.”

Meleason was in another zip code. He lapped up to 12th-place and took the win with ease. Beidel was second, followed by eighth-place starter Kenny Edkin. Super Sportsman 100 champion Frankie Herr and John Edkin completed the top five in the final rundown.

In the Creekside Auto Sales 358 Late Model main event, Daulton Bigler lost the top spot but took it back and cruised to the 20-Lap victory.

Danny Snyder got the jump on Bigler at the start and led the first circuit. Bigler got a rhythm on Lap 2 and retook the lead for good.

A pair of cautions slowed his pace, but Bigler had enough at the end to hold off 12th-place starter Chase Billet. Shawn Miller, Travis Mease, and Sean Merkel completed the top five.

Jasen Geesaman beat Eric Tripp to the stripe to earn the win in the 20-Lap Frankie’s Used Auto Parts/Mike’s Towing Street Stock feature.

Geesaman started third and charged to the front, leading the first four laps. Brian Walls took the lead on Lap 5 but could only hold it for five laps, giving way to Tripp.

Tripp, who started on the pole was fast, but Geesaman was better. Geesaman retook the point on Lap 14 and led the rest of the way for the win.

Bud Witmer followed Geesaman and Tripp to the line. Kyle Saylor and Ryan Smith completed the top five.

In the Superior Homes Extreme Stock main event, Keith Bissinger advanced to first from his fifth-place starting spot in two laps and earned the 20-Lap win.

Patrick McClane finished second, followed by Hunter Fulton, Andrew Hogue, and Will Long.
