Jackson Wins Super Sportsman feature.

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: It was a little bit of a different feeling when Tony Jackson rolled through the pit gate at BAPS Motor Speedway Saturday night.

A chapter in his racing career was coming to a close. Aside from a Sportsman 100 or some oddity, it was the last time Jackson was going to compete in a winged Super Sportsman machine.

That’s motivation.

Jackson wanted to finish strong, and he did so in a big way. This was a memorable beat down, as the Carlisle, Pa., driver got the front in a hurry and captured the non-stop Super Sportsman main event by a hefty 6.034 seconds.

“We set a goal to reach 50 Sportsman wins in my career this year, and we were able to get number 60, overall, tonight,” Jackson said. “This will be my final winged Super Sportsman race, as I’m retiring as a full-time driver. I’m not saying we won’t race the Sportsman 100 next year, but it’s time to do other things in life.”

Justin Foster started on the outside pole and got the jump on Tyler Wolford. By the time the first lap was complete, Jackson had made his way up to second.

Jackson tracked down Foster by the first circuit and sailed by. Once out front, he, immediately, started to distance himself from the field.

While Jackson was on cruise control, Kenny Edkin was making his way to the front. He started 10th and was up to fifth by Lap 10. Seven laps later, he was up to third, and he took over the runner-up spot by Lap 19.

But catching Jackson wasn’t in the cards. The leader was gone, and he decimated the field to head into retirement on a high note.

Edkin finished second, with Sportsman 100 winner Scott Dellinger taking third. Foster and Timmie Barrick completed the top five.

In Limited Late Model competition, Trent Merkel started on the pole and survived a pair of caution periods to claim the win in the 20-Lap feature.

Merkel led the first 13 circuits before the first caution. Dan Zechman, who started third, made his way to second by Lap 12 and had a clear shot at the leader but couldn’t make a pass.

Zechman tried to track down the leader but couldn’t make anything happen. Merkel led the rest of the way, taking the checker by .844 seconds at the finish. Chase Billet, Skylar Taschek, and Chad Smith completed the top five.

The East Coast Legends were in attendance, but like the Late Models, a driver wired the field. Logan Carbaugh led the entire race distance to take top honors in the 20-Lap main event.

Carbaugh grabbed the lead at the start over Kelby Friese. Jeremy Ott started sixth and took second on Lap 8 and chased the leader. After a caution on Lap 14, he harassed Carbaugh looking for a way to get by.

It was close at the end, but Carbaugh had just enough to take the win by .116 seconds. Ott, Scott Houdeshell, Friese, and Shaun Abney completed the top five.

Patrick McClane grabbed the win in the 15-Lap Superior Homes Extreme Stock feature. He took the win by .232 seconds over Doug Hoffman. Kory Sites, Brian Walls, and Michael Goodwin completed the top five.
