Dietrich Wins York Excavating Night

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: When the best in the 410 Sprint Car division roll into BAPS Motor Speedway, Danny Dietrich is the clear-cut favorite to park his car in Victory Lane at the end of the night.

The Gettysburg, Pa., driver already won three times at the York Haven, Pa., oval during the 2025 season. Still, there were four times he missed out on the top spot, so the rest of the field had a chance.

Or did they?

Not on this night. Dietrich dominated the 30-Lap York Excavating Kevin Gobrecht Classic, building a seven-second lead at one point and cruising to an emphatic 5.710-second victory and a $10,000 paycheck by the time the checkered flag dropped.

The victory was Dietrich’s 25th at the speedway, which puts him two behind Lynn Paxton on the all-time win list and eight out of the top spot. It was also his second-straight victory in the race honoring the late Kevin Gobrecht.

“This race is very special,” Dietrich said afterwards. “Other than your close family and your father, Kevin was one of my heroes growing up. I have some moments I will never forget with him.

“It’s special to win these, and you don’t take it for granted. It’s one you circle on your calendar with him being a hero of yours from when you were a kid, and that happens because he leaves an impression on you. It’s pretty damn cool to be standing here again.”

The initial start was waved off, when pole-sitter Freddie Rahmer got on the gas a little early to beat Dietrich to Turn 1. Logan Rumsey also spun in the second corner and couldn’t continue because of front-end damage.

Dietrich was on the gas on the second restart. He was even with Rahmer coming down the frontstretch and took the lead through the first and second corner. Brock Zearfoss advanced from fifth to third on the backstretch and settled in behind the first two.

The race was slowed a second time on the third circuit. Gerard McIntyre Jr. spun in the middle of the backstretch, which postponed Dietrich’s onslaught for the time being.

When the race went back to green, Dietrich pulled away in a hurry, blasting through the corners with ease. While the leader pulled away, Rahmer and Zearfoss battled for the second position.

Dietrich was gone, but the race for second was intense. Rahmer got caught behind a lapped car, which allowed Zearfoss to get by entering Turn 3 on Lap 21. Cameron Smith followed suit, but Rahmer got it back coming out of the fourth corner on the same lap.

Zearfoss had nothing for the leader. With no caution in sight, Dietrich took his time around lapped traffic on the final circuit and claimed the win in spectacular fashion over Zearfoss and Rahmer.

“That was probably the calmest race I’ve run and won,” Dietrich said. “I just tried to set a pace, not blow the tires off this thing and get them too hot, and keep them underneath me.

“Hats off to the BAPS track crew here tonight. There is a bottom and top [in Turns 3 and 4]; it’s way up and way down. I never flirted with the bottom of one and two, but it was the same as Williams Grove last night.

“I blasted the tracks pretty hard this week, and they deserved it … not all of them as much as others. But I blasted them this week, and it’s good to see racy tracks again. It’s what central Pennsylvania needs so we can put on a good show, and it’s why fans show up.”

In Super Sportsman action, Kenny Edkin started on the pole and wired the field to capture the 25-Lap main event. It was his third win of the season.

The lone caution of the event came on Lap 2, when Jason Fraker spun. Edkin controlled the race from there and claimed the win over eighth-place starter and point leader Scott Dellinger.

John Edkin, who started 11th, Timmie Barrick, and Matt Ondek completed the top five. There were 18 cars in attendance.
