WALLS WINS EXTREME STOCK 50
YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Brian Walls wasn’t sure how he would fare when he sold his Street Stock equipment and decided to compete in the Extreme Stock division.
It’s understandable. There is a learning curve when you are getting used to another car and are lining up against unfamiliar competition.
That is unless you are Walls.
The Gettysburg, Pa., driver knows BAPS Motor Speedway as good as anyone, and there is no doubt he can drive. Walls showed that during the Superior Homes Extreme Stock 50, which highlighted the Levan Machine-Rehbeins Nationals.
“We had a really good car tonight, and to be honest, you need to have a good car,” Walls said. “These guys are really tough at BAPS, and the tough competition makes us want to work on our stuff even more.
“We got rid of the Street Stock stuff the other year and started working on a car that we can run in the Extreme Stocks. We weren’t sure how it would go, but my family and sponsors have stood behind me, and here we are in Victory Lane at the Extreme Stock 50.”
Walls started fourth on the grid, but he didn’t cruise to the win. Tyler Miller grabbed the lead at the start from the pole and led the first two circuits.
The lead was short-lived. Walls charged to the front on Lap 3, but Miller wasn’t going away, not by a long shot. He retook the lead on the ninth circuit and held it through Lap 17 until Walls drove into the lead a second time.
Once out front, Walls never gave it up again. He survived two more cautions and drove away to a 3.543-seconbd win over Miller. Michael Goodwin, Patrick McClane, and Kyle Saylor completed the top five.
In the Super Sportsman portion of the Nationals, Kenny Edkin made short work of the field to capture the 25-Lap main event.
Adam Edkin started second on the grid and took the lead at the start before fifth-place starter Timmie Barrick ripped by to take the top spot on Lap 4. Kenny Edkin, who started sixth, was up to second at that point and started to track down the leader.
Kenny Edkin wasted little time with Barrick, cruising by on Lap 6 and driving away to the 4.092-second win. Barrick settled for second, with Jay Fannasy, Scott Dellinger, and Matt Ondek completing the top five.
Jeremy Ott avenged a narrow loss the previous night in the Saturday East Coast Legends main event. Ott led all 20 laps in claiming the win.
Ott started second and beat Logan Carbaugh to Turn 1 to take the lead. He led the rest of the way and beat Friday night winner Alex McCollum by .863 seconds. Carbaugh, Kelby Friese, and Cody Carton completed the top five.
In 358 Late Model competition, Scott Palmer surged from fifth to the lead in short order to earn the win in the 20-Lap feature.
Chase Billet started on the pole and led the first five laps. Palmer caught a break with getting a restart and took advantage, shooting into the lead on Lap 6. From there, he dominated the rest of the way in taking the 4.8-second win.
The 602 Crate Modified feature was eventful with six caution periods, but Bryce Bashore topped the field in the 30-Lap main event.
Bashore took the lead from early leader Dakota Kohler on Lap 4 and claimed the win by 1.373 seconds. Ryan Simmons, Jax Yohn, Adam White, and Michael White completed the top five.
On Friday night, the 305 Sprints were on the card, and Doug Dodson was declared the winner when the time expired on the caution-filled main event.
Jarrett Cavalet started on the pole and led the first five circuits. Dodson, who started second, took control on Lap 6, but nine caution flags ended the main event early. Christian Rumsey, Logan Spahr, Owen Dimm, and Cavalet complete the top five.
The East Coast PA Legends were on the Friday card with the 305 Sprints, and Alex McCollum nipped Jeremy Ott on the last circuit to claim the 20-Lap affair.
Ott started on the pole and led the first 18 circuits before McCollum got beside him on Lap 19. The two drivers battled to the wire, with McCollum scoring the narrow .093-second win at the stripe.
