MAGARO'S TOWING SILVER SPRING SPEEDWAY THROWBACK
YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Despite closing its doors after the 2005 racing season, Silver Spring Speedway needs no introduction when it comes to racetrack history in the central Pennsylvania region.
The Super Sportsman were the premier division, drawing over 50 cars most nights. Fans showed up in droves to see some of the most competitive racing at an affordable cost to get in the gate and at the refreshment stand.
Once the speedway was sold, the main divisions moved over to Williams Grove and then BAPS Motor Speedway. And now, the management team at the York Haven facility is carrying on the Silver Spring tradition.
General Manager Kolten Gouse and the rest of his team will host Magaro’s Towing Silver Spring Throwback Night on Saturday, June 20th. It will feature a $5 general admission price to anyone who wears a Silver Spring Speedway track T-Shirt.
“Silver Spring Speedway was one of the storied racetracks on the East Coast,” Gouse said. “The history and names of drivers who competed there … It's a mix of Hall of Famers and guys who are known throughout the region.
“It was also one of the more popular race tracks around. Fans flocked there because of how affordable it was. As for the competition, it was second to none. It was difficult just making a feature on any given night, and if you won, you were doing something.”
There will also be a $5 admission price for the first 50 people to purchase tickets online before January 5th thanks to FK Rod Ends.
The divisions on the card that night will be the Super Sportsman, 358 Late Models, and Extreme Stocks. There is also a Super Sportsman non-winner’s race.
There are plenty of activities scheduled for the June event. The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will be on site and get track time. There will be a camera and autograph night with old-time drivers, and it will also be $1 Hot Dog Night with other cheaper items on the concession stand menu.
“It’s an honor to carry on the Silver Spring Speedway tradition,” Gouse said. “Being able to host the divisions that ran at that speedway and then be able to host a night honoring what Alan Kreitzer and his family built … It's special.”
The Speedway will be announcing additional Sponsorship and additional activities that are being finalized. If you would like to participate in this event please contact the speedway office.
